Reconciliation talks on Syria involving the armed opposition as well as Russia, Iran and Turkey are scheduled for March 14 in Kazakh capital of Astana. There was no immediate mention of Damascus involvement and a few news agencies report the assembly is to have a technical feature.
Previous talks held in Astana helped to launch United Nations-led peace negotiations in Geneva. Kazakhstan hosted January 23-24 the international meeting on Syrian settlement brokered by Russia, Iran and Turkey. Representatives of the Syrian government and the armed opposition groups met for the first time since the beginning of the Syrian war in 2011. In 2015 Astana hosted two rounds of talks with a number of Syrian opposition groups and provided a heavy cargo of humanitarian aid to the people of Syria in December 2016.
