Iran, Russia Discuss Syria Peace Talks

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Jaberi Ansari and Russian Special Presidential Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentiev in a meeting in Astana discussed the latest developments of Syria.

During the meeting in Kazakhstan’s capital on Monday, Jaberi Ansari and Lavrentiev reviewed the ways for peaceful settlement of the Syrian crisis.

The meeting between the senior Iranian and Russian officials took place prior to their trilateral meeting with their Turkish counterpart.

The two sides discussed the newest field developments, Syrian-Syrian talks, and reconciliatory resolution of the crisis.

United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura, who is not participating in the seventh international Astana meeting on resolving the situation in Syria, announced on Thursday that a new round of talks aimed at ending the Syrian crisis will open in a month time.

The seventh international meeting on Syria, currently underway in Kazakhstan’s capital of Astana, kicked on Monday with the aim to reach agreements between the negotiating parties on the two issues that have not been finalized during the previous six rounds – exchange of prisoners and demining conflict zones.
