Deputy foreign ministers of Iran and Turkey mulled over bilateral and regional issues in the wake of a visit by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Iran.
Russia’s newly appointed ambassador to Ankara Alexei Yerkhov said that Turkey is an important partner of Russia in solving the Syrian crisis and increasing the trade volume between two countries to $100 billion is a “possible goal.”
Experts from Russia, Iran and Turkey acting as the guarantors of the Syrian ceasefire, will hold a meeting in Astana on Tuesday. Similar consultations were last held in Tehran on April 18-19.
Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday stressed the importance of working with “right and legitimate” actors in the fight against terrorism during a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, sources in Erdogan’s office said.
Turkey has warned Syrian opposition groups from refraining to discuss the future administrative make-up of Syria or a new constitution at the talks in Geneva on Feb. 20.
